The Incas – The Legendary Birth from Lake Titicaca to the City of Cusco
The Incas left no written record of their history. The only testimonies came from the first conquistadors, who gathered stories from the native inhabitants. Among many warring successors, the Inca civilization eventually emerged after beginning as a small tribe living in the Quechua region, on the shores of Lake Titicaca between Peru and Bolivia. They were part of a larger confederation of groups, initially holding a subordinate status. The confederation was built around two clans: the Hanan clan, which held political power, and the Hurin clan, which controlled military strength and included the Incas.
