Biography

Journalist at Jeune Afrique magazine since 1971, Férid Boughedir is professor of cinema at the University of Tunis. He first became known as a film critic through his works and publications on the history of African and Arab cinemas. He directed two feature-length documentaries presented in official selection at the Cannes Film Festival: Camera of Africa (1983) and Camera of Arab (1987). His first work of fiction, Halfaouine, the child of the terraces (1990) was crowned with several awards, including the Golden Tanit at the Carthage Film Festival (JCC). In 2016, he is the only Tunisian to appear in the top 50 of the most important Arab personalities of the year published by the weekly The Middle East Magazine "for an artistic talent who has succeeded through his films, to promote an image positive from his country, Tunisia, on a global scale ”.
