Eurozone: Market Attack

In 2010, Greece came close to bankruptcy due to the global debt crisis. Spain, Portugal, and Ireland also suffered, and the euro itself was on the brink of collapse. The European Union stepped in to support the most vulnerable states and rescue their treasuries. However, European citizens are now paying the price for these interventions. The cost of public commitments plummeted, and for the first time, some governments adopted austerity policies to regain the trust of stock markets. The key question: why did the markets suddenly abandon the eurozone? This documentary covers the six-month period marked by tensions within and between EU member states and the markets. Journalists Jean-Michel Meurice and Jean Quatremer retrace the roots of the euro crisis, investigate the EU's handling of it, analyze market strategies, and examine the risks the euro faced. Can the Union withstand another market attack in the future?
