A graduate of the Institut des Hautes Etudes Cinématographiques de Paris (HIDEC) Lotfi Layouni started in the profession as Director of Photography, then as a director and finally as an executive producer and producer. In 1973 he created, in association, his first box Latif production and in 1997 he created his own box Amilcar Films which produced several short and feature films as well as television series. Lotfi Layouni was editor of the journal "Ecrans de Tunisie" and professor at ISAMM, EDAC and ESAC. Activist and militant, he was president of the Association of Tunisian Filmmakers and Vice-president of the Union Chamber of Film Producers.
